Database Technology And Its Effect On The Entertainment...
The entertainment business has gone through extreme changes over the last 15 years. The advances in technology has made different forms of entertainment more available and accessible to people everywhere. One area that had the largest effect on the entertainment industry is database technology. Database technology has touched every aspect of the entertainment industry, from contacting customers, sales, marketing, predictive tracking, video streaming, and keeping track of sales, taxes, and piracy issues. All major organizations within the entertainment business use some form of database technology. The entertainment industry uses all four of the main types of Database Management Systems (DBMS); Hierarchical, Network, Relational, and object-oriented DBSM. To have a general understanding of a brief definition may be necessary. The following definitions are from Dictionary.com: Hierarchical DBMS A kind of database management system that links records together like a family tree such that each record type has only one owner, e.g. an order is owned by only one customer. Hierarchical structures were widely used in the first mainframe database management systems. However, due to their restrictions, they often cannot be used to relate structures that exist in the real world. Network DBMS A kind of database management system in which each record type can have multiple owners, e.g. orders are owned by both customers and products.
